Highlights of the Week

🚶‍♂️Virtual Protocol’s Mainnet Beta Goes Live On Base
Virtual Protocol has announced their Mainnet Beta is live. Virtual Protocol enables the creation of AI characters for virtual worlds. For example, it could allow an author to bring a novel's protagonist to life as an interactive guide in an online world, making stories more immersive. It rewards contributors for building and ensuring the quality of these AI models and simplifies the process for developers wanting to enrich their apps with interactive AI, offering a new revenue model for IP owners. You can read Virtual Protocol’s whitepaper here.
➡️ Base's unique positioning as the most accessible blockchain for onboarding directly from Coinbase exchange and wallet—two of the world's most utilized crypto platforms—primes projects on Base for substantial retail capital flows. The seamless onboarding of investors from Coinbase to Base will open a floodgate of retail investment flows onto the chain. For reference, here is a visual displaying the recent capital flows onto Base chain.

This creates a distinct opportunity for investors, as Base native projects (like Virtual Protocol) are set to benefit from this wave of retail capital.

🤖 AI Models Go Live On Bitcoin
The Bitcoin Virtual Machine (BVM), a layer 2 project, is set to release Truly Open AI, a platform that allows users to deploy, monetize, and sell AI models on the blockchain. This development highlights the growing interest in integrating AI with blockchain technology, potentially leading to new decentralized AI applications and use cases. Despite some experts questioning the feasibility of running AI on a blockchain, BVM's collaboration with prominent projects like Filecoin, Near, Avail, Polygon, and Syscoin demonstrates the ongoing efforts to explore and push the boundaries of this emerging field.
➡️ Bitcoin Virtual Machine only recently launched the project’s token, BVM, at the start of March. Since this announcement, the token has jumped over 30% and is currently sitting at ~$280M market cap. This coin fits both the BTC Layer 2 narrative and AI—it could be one to watch if the BTC derivatives narrative picks up.
